It' FREE But Is It Worth It?

Found this table HERE for yep...FREE!!

My only question is Yay or Nay? Is free worth it? Sounds crazy huh? Well let me keep it short & sweet. Even though it is free is worth the work, supplies, time & effort?

Description read as:

Side Table (End Table) - Bassett

The top of this isn't in great shape, but it's a solid piece of furniture. We're only getting rid of it because we've purchased a new end table and we need to make some room.

The veneer on top does have quite a few chips out of it and the surface has one "foggy" spot that you may be able to clean off. The table probably weighs about 20-25 lbs and is very sturdy. Perfect for a lamp to sit next to your couch.

This is a Bassett brand table and is "pecan" colored. Measures 26" diameter and 23" high.
Price: Free

Hmmmm???????

I really like it, it is hard to find solid classic furniture in the store, everything is made from wood chips and glue these days. I would restore it to look close to its original state. But do you need it?

i think it's worth it. it's a solid piece, and would be great next to any one of those chairs you have downstairs in your furniture shop. :) you can get the inspiration later. run by and get it if you have time.

Good question, and a huge dilemma for anyone without limitless time (ie, all of us). I really like the dresser I stained recently, but costing in 6 hours of my time actually made it hundreds of dollars of effort.
In this case, it's clearly a high quality table and not too big, so you might want to give it a whirl. But I'd say, only if there's somewhere in your house you can really see it belonging; otherwise, it's just more stuff, right?

If you have a use for it and you don't have to travel far for it, swoop it up lil mama!

Structurally it is a nice piece.

I say throw a linen or burlap tablecloth over it (floor length), throw a cute lamp & some picture frames on it. No one will ever know. It'll look fabulous w/o the sweat and tears!

Knowing you? The table would be a piece of art in no time flat. Free = FAB when you get your hands on it.

I can't believe you bought the two bookshelves! Looking forward to see the transformation on here (I assume you will post it haha =)

And the butterflies, what a great idea to look on ebay! I will do that, I want some. Although I have some coming my way, my uncle will give me a framed set he has =D YEYY!

If you have the room to store it until you have the time then why not? You can always pass it on.
Before kids I always found it quite
pleasurable to find something by the dumpster and then make it into something useful and lovely. Now the prospect of another unfinished project is stressful. One idea is to fill the chips and paint it a solid color. I did that with a similar veneer piece. Painted rather than stained furniture is the style now. I am still trying to convince my husband to let me paint the mahogany victrola white.
Have fun!

FOR SURE!! Am I a sinner for wanting to see that baby painted? I cannot wait for another fabulous makeover from you!

I'm wondering how the chipped veneer could be fixed. Otherwise, I like the shape of the piece and some paint could do wonders.

BTW, thank you so much for the kind words that you left on my blogs today. You are too sweet!
